A reset is essential for maintaining health and wellbeing because it allows the mind and body to recover from stress, fatigue, and overstimulation. In a fast-paced world, constant demands can lead to burnout, reduced focus, and emotional exhaustion. Taking time to reset helps restore balance and improves overall functioning.

Physically, a reset might involve proper sleep, hydration, nutritious food, or simply taking a break from intense activity. These actions allow the body to repair itself, strengthen the immune system, and regain energy.

Mentally, a reset can include mindfulness, relaxation, or stepping away from screens and responsibilities. This helps reduce anxiety, improve clarity, and enhance decision-making.

Emotionally, resetting provides space to process feelings and regain a sense of control. It can prevent negative emotions from building up and support resilience in challenging situations. Even short breaks, such as a walk in nature or a few minutes of deep breathing, can have a significant positive impact.

Reset is something I regularly do with my dog especially when walking on a lead.  Being young and a spaniel he still is eager to go ahead following every scent and smell that passes his nose often pulling me behind.

My technique for coping with this is to reset.  I stop and stand still and just wait.  I’m waiting for him to register that we have stopped and that cues him to come back to my side, pause and then quietly go again.

For us as busy people a reset of life, of routines, of thoughts are equally important.  To paraphrase a section in the book The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho, we need to stop in order for our souls to catch up.
