My “official” Reiki experience started in 2014 when I went for a Reiki session with Tracee Cullen.  I remember one of the first questions she asked was “when did my spiritual journey begin” which I thought was a bit of a strange question.  On reflection though I have always been curious and open –minded about holistic therapies anything from conventional massage to metamorphic technique to energy healing techniques.

I certainly wasn’t a child with any unique gifts or spiritual powers and as an adult I am very pragmatic, realistic and down to earth.  My Occupational Therapy (OT) career in mental health kept me within the boundaries of evidenced based practise and interventions although as an OT I engaged with the whole of the person’s life including wellbeing, physical and emotional health.

In 2008 I was asked to set up an organisation for women in complementary therapies with European funding and North Devon Holistic Therapies was born.  The fabulous women practitioners that joined me, opened my eyes to even more “unconventional” therapies.

So following my first Reiki session with Tracee I just knew that I needed to explore this very gentle modality of healing so I enrolled on my Level One training the following year.  The attunements that I received, which open up and raise my connection with energy, were amazing. I even saw an image which I later incorporated into my business logo.  Using Reiki on myself daily gave me a sense of calmness in my life.  The precepts which are an integral part of Reiki  gave me the permission not to anger or worry and to be more compassionate to myself and others.

From that first training I knew then I was going to teach Reiki to Master level. Since then Reiki has been a part of my life nearly almost every day.  I am aware that I am connected to something much bigger than myself whether you call it Spirit, Universe, Higher self or God or energy.  I can “plug in” to this infinite energy that is all around us to keep my physical, mental and spiritual health in balance.  This in turn boosts my immune system so I am less prone to illnesses, I am more accepting of situations which in turn decreases any stress and I am certainly more tolerant and patient then I ever used to be!  Hopefully my friends will confirm this!

words of healing
Reiki, for me, has been a great catalyst for further energy work having gone on to complete my Shamanic apprenticeship in 2019 with Sue Marcantonio. I believe that Reiki, its practice and its ethos, can easily be incorporated into our busy everyday lives.  I see the results of this with the students I teach and especially those who have gone onto their master level.  Sometimes it is hard to explain the impact; it can be as subtle as a sense of letting go of worry and expectations or an inner peace inside.  I am truly grateful and humble to have been led into this way of working and being, not only benefiting myself but many others that I have had the privilege to work with.

If you have never experienced Reiki I would highly recommend you give it a go and you never know it may lead to you teaching it yourself one day!
